Cisco have announced the death of the Flip. Yes, bad news, they are discontinuing the Flip Video to focus on other areas!

Surely a buyer can still be found?

Maybe we Flip fans can create a fund and buy the Flip alongside a business partner?

Could the Flip become a crowdsourced camera?

How can the iconic Flip not be a profitable product?

Why can’t ergonomics triumph over economics?

Who knows, it’s early days, but please enter your email so we know who wants to save the Flip!

And then please add a comment below to share the campaign.

UPDATE 14th April 2011

Thanks for all the comments, for signing up (top right). Also thanks to everyone who tweeted and facebooked this page plus the various blogs who have featured it and the social media commentators who are analysing what this all means!

I wanted to crystallize a few thoughts I’d picked up from the comments here and around the Web. This is what I think Cisco need to be told/asked. What do you guys think?

  • You asked us ‘the fans’ to support your social media campaigns, support your brand on facebook, youtube and twitter, sign up to your email list and buy your product. We did. But why are you now silent? What happened to the relationship?
  • To some the Flip is just another camera, but surely like us you realise it is not. As a revolutionary product it changed the way people produced and shared Video online, and introduced the power of Video to people from Africa to Afghanistan, from cool young things to grandparents looking to capture their families for eternity. You have an audience that money can’t buy, so why not treasure it?
  • The Flip is symbolic of the total revolution in self-publishing we have witnessed in the past decade. It provided the means for many people to access an affordable, easy to use Video camera and get their voice heard! How can this iconic communication tool be trashed in an instant?
  • How come you can’t find a buyer to take over The Flip when there are reports of interested buyers? If you can’t fit The Flip into your own business plans we urge you to find a suitable buyer. You owe it to us.
  • We urge you to reconsider your position in the next days, but immediately people need to know what will happen to Flip support, their warranties, and future upgrades and support of Flipshare?
  • Please realise a lot of people bought the latest Flip Ultra HD (3rd Gen) based on the lure of the new Flip Port you added to the camera last year. At that time you announced future 3rd party accesssories, like long awaited microphones. What will happen to these accessories that are now overdue? Whatever the outcome, we ask you to secure the release of these products asap to fulfil your promise to your customers.

So, will you talk to us?
